The Russian programme at the London Book Fair 2016 is one event in a series which is part of the UK-Russia Year of Language and Literature, an important milestone in developing and strengthening relations between the two countries. The Russian stand will showcase more than 500 new titles, with a focus on the works of Russian writers whose anniversaries are celebrated in 2016, educational publishing, and children's literature. It will also feature books by British publishers released with the support of the Russian Institute for Literary Translation. Visitors will have a chance to see books produced by more than thirty Russian publishers, including: Eksmo, Vremya, Elena Shubina's Editorial Office of AST publishing house, Rudomino Center for the Book, Russian Political Encyclopedia (ROSSPEN) Publisher, etc.

The programme at the Russian stand is packed with events and activities: more than 30 presentations, round tables, discussions and writers’ talks will be held during the course of the fair. The organising committee has set up events that will provide information on initiatives which open up opportunities for publishers, translators and literary agents from around the world. The Institute for Literary Translation, established in 2011 with the primary goal of promoting Russian literature in translation internationally, will report back on five years of activities.

Participants and guests of LBF-2016 will learn about an ambitious new project: The Russian Library. This new English-language series of Russian fiction, drama, and poetry in translation will be published over the next 10 years in collaboration with Columbia University Press.

The organizers have scheduled a presentation of the «Читай Россию/Read Russia» award for best translations of Russian literature into world languages—which was first presented at the LBF in 2014—as well as the Read Russia English-language Prize, awarded to translators and publishers for works of Russian literature in English translation.

A highlight of the programme is the series of meetings with award-winning Russian writers Guzel Yakhina, Andrei Astvatsaturov, Andrei Gelasimov, Alexander Snegirev, and Alisa Ganieva (Alisa Ganieva’s participation in the LBF is sponsored by the British Council). The public will also have the opportunity to engage in conversation with Hamid Ismailov and Irina Muravyova, prominent Russian writers living outside Russia.
