This September 2009 Ludmila Ulitskaya will be a special guest of Babel Fest in Bellinzona, the capital city of the canton Ticino in Switzerland.
On Saturday, Sept. 19th, at 16.00 at Teatro Sociale Ludmila Ulitskaya and Emanuela Guercetti («Russia - Italia. Attraverso i Secoli» 2007 award for Italian translation of Ulitskaya's Sincerely Yours, Shurik) will host a public discussion.
Also, during the Festival Emanuela Guercetti (http://www.guercetti.it/) will give a three-day translation workshop based on her Ulitskaya's Italian translations.

These essays came about in response to a question asked of contemporary writers by the magazine Znamia: "Is Gogol's creative experience relevant today (and to you personally) and, if so, how?" The answer, writes Vladislav Otroshenko, that struck him immediately consisted of two sentences: "Gogol died of literature. That is what must be known if we are to know whether Gogol's creative experience is relevant—today, tomorrow—to anyone personally."

The novel’s title refers to the Greek tragedy of Agamemnon who, after his return from Troy, was killed by Aegisthus, the lover of his wife, Clytemnestra. The King of Agamemnon follows Nikolai Zhestovsky, a researcher and philosopher, whose modern life in the twentieth century, including current-day Russia, begins to mimic Agamemnon’s ancient tragedy. Critics praised Sharov’s last work for its profound philosophical reflections and unexpected historical parallels.
The novel sold 10,000 copies in Russia.
